Green Oasis Journal No.1
16-Oct-2022
SAPHRA Resident association has been discussing a voluntary working group to garden and maintain the patch of green space that's fondly known as the Green Oasis on Sopwell Lane St Albans.
The group finally was up and running from October 2022 with some funding from SAPHRA. The local residents brought tools, plants and materials and spent good number of hours digging up a stretch of border for planting, trimming back the ivy, and planting some new. We gave the shrubs and trees a good prune and also attempted to create a small pond (intension is for water loving wild life to have a place to rest in)!
This is only the beginning as some volunteers are also compiling a list of all the plants found, also a list of any birds, animals, amphibians and insects spotted on the site. We shall hope to share the lists and some photos of any interesting plants and animals later!
For a starter, below are photos of the volunteers hard-at-work and what the Green Oasis looks like after the tidying up.
P.S. The Green Oasis is the land of the local council and it is the intension of the council and the local residents to keep this as a green space for the community to enjoy. The volunteers are all local residents with love for nature and wild life.
