GREEN OASIS JOUNAL NO. 7

Keyfield Terrace Guerrilla Garden

As the summer draws to a close - I'd like to dedicate this post to feature Keyfield Terrace's guerrilla garden project. The small patch of garden is really jam-packed with nice and colourful blooms throughout summer, providing lots of visual interest in the neighbourhood and everyone who walks pass it.
Below are some snaps taken from August to October this year - what a contrast comparing to when we first noticed it back in February -  GREEN OASIS JOURNAL NO. 3

Keyfield Terrace at beginning of October:

Below three pictures were taken around end of August :

This bright Purple verbena (or Stiff verbena) is a shrub from South America / South-eastern United States. The bright flowers attract pollinators such as butterflies and hoverflies.

The next picture features Garden cosmos, it's know for its beauty and hardiness - growing very easily and self-seeds. It's native Mexican, hence sometimes is known as Mexican aster.
It's popular with human, pollinators and birds and symbolises order and harmony.

The bushy plant with yellow showy flowers in the next picture are known as Four O'clock flower (or Marvel of Pervu) - seems to be another plant from America. Apparently its flowers are closed most of the day and only open between four and eight o'clock, hence the common name four o'clock flower, how interesting!

Green Oasis in Late Summer

The Green Oasis is more understated in its summer display. There's been a dry spell around end of August and some of the plants were pretty burned out. The newly installed watering butt came in handy - the plants really needed to take a drink from there in those times.

Below is some cute pinkie flowers sprouting out of the ground in the woodland area.
It's known as the Ivy-leaved cyclamen, native to the Mediterranean region from France to Turkey.
It sure is draught tolerant as this photo was taken during the August dry spell.

The next picture features the wisteria and dog roses intertwined together at the end of the woodland area. The dog rose is a wild rose species that produces gorgeous pink flowers and can be found climbing up many different trees.
The dog rose here have finished flowering and produced nice bright coloured and attractive rose hips :)
